About

The public record, made legible

What your representatives actually do — how they vote, who funds them, what they pass — is public. It just sits in Hansard transcripts, AEC disclosures and AusTender notices that almost no one reads. Verity exists to make that record legible, personal and impossible to spin. We show the record; you make the call.

Who's behind it

Verity is an independent project built in Sydney by Callum McCaffrey. It is not affiliated with, funded by, or endorsed by any political party, candidate, lobby group, or the Parliament of Australia.

Independence & funding

Verity accepts no political donations and runs no advertising. The public site is free. The project is currently self-funded, with a paid tier for newsrooms and researchers (Verity Pro) planned to keep it that way. Nobody — including us — gets to pay for a friendlier version of the record.

Method: where every number comes from

Every figure on this site traces to a primary source. Nothing is invented; where a record is incomplete we say so rather than fill the gap.

Bills

From the Australian Parliament House bills system: title, status, progress dates and source documents. Plain-English summaries are AI-assisted and labelled as such.

Divisions (recorded votes)

From Hansard division records, matched to members via TheyVoteForYou identifiers. A “division” is parliament's formal recorded vote — every member's name goes on the record.

Attendance

The share of recorded divisions in which a member cast a vote, counted over divisions held while they sat. Pairing arrangements and approved leave are not distinguishable in the public record, so they are not adjusted for — ministers and leaders often show lower figures for that reason.

Party loyalty & crossing the floor

A vote counts as a floor-crossing when a member votes against the majority position of their own party in that division. Loyalty is the inverse share. Independents have no party line, so neither figure applies.

Donations

Declared receipts from Australian Electoral Commission disclosure filings. The AEC publishes annually and thresholds apply, so this is the declared record — not a claim to completeness.

Contracts (“the money”)

Commonwealth contract notices from AusTender, matched to electorates by supplier location.

Polling

Published national polls, aggregated over a rolling window. We show the aggregate and its window, never a single poll.

Where AI is used

AI drafts plain-English bill summaries, the case-for-and-against panels, issue tags on divisions (shown only above 60% confidence) and the Daily Brief. Every AI-assisted element is labelled where it appears, and the Brief is independently checked against Hansard and the day's coverage before publication — if a draft fails that check, we publish the last verified edition instead and say so.

Corrections

If any figure on this site is wrong, we want it fixed more than you do. Email hello@verity.run with the page link and what's wrong. Confirmed errors are corrected at the source so every page that used the figure updates.
